A Three-Day Itinerary for Diu
Day 1: Nagoa Beach and Diu Fort
Ease into your Diu vacation with a morning spent at Nagoa Beach, where shallow waters on crescent-shaped shores are perfect for a peaceful swim. Unlike India’s more commercial beach destinations, Nagoa offers serenity without the sound of vendors or loud crowds. There is beauty in not doing much here.
In the afternoon, head to the majestic Diu Fort, standing on the cliff’s edge with expanded views of the Arabian Sea. Walk through the lighthouse, mossy ramparts, and underground escape tunnels. Time your visit to watch the golden hour over the waves.
End the day at O’Coqueiro, a Portuguese-inspired eatery in town, to taste fresh fish curry and a coconut-infused cocktail.
Day 2: Chakratirth Beach
On Day two, you are likely to begin your day on winding roads of the Old Diu town. Visit St. Paul’s Church, built in baroque style with ornate woodwork that still gives the impression of soft prayers from centuries past.
Next, tucked into seaside caves is the Gangeshwar Mahadev Temple, where waves fall onto the five Shiva lingas (symbol of Lord Shiva) carved into the rocks. A coastal sanctum of stone, water, and faith.
As the day wanes, walk to Chakratirth Beach, a lesser-known spot where cliffs hold you above the water. Dine at a beachside restaurant, with grilled pomfret and a slow view of the darkening skies.
Day 3: Naida Caves
The day begins just before dawn at Vanakbara, a vibrant fishing village. Watch as colorful boats glide into the harbor with the day’s fresh catch, and the locals sort, clean and barter their ocean bounty.
After breakfast, make your way to the Naida Caves, an often-overlooked natural marvel formed by erosion and quarrying during Portuguese rule. Honeycombed tunnels, shafts of light, and banyan roots hanging from the ceilings, these caves feel like a dreamscape.
Wrap up your trip with a local lunch in town and a final stroll along the Diu pier before heading to the airport or bus stand.
